Staff Picks: Gay Dramas

Our Staff Picks column is a new addition that takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version has a decidedly nude angle, as we suss out which films from a certain genre with great nudity. This week: gay dramas!

Gays love drama...movies. I'm talking about movies! I love a good gay drama, but I'm partial to ones that feature really hot men falling in love. Yes, a lot of these end sad - but a lot of these also have full-fledged frontal shots and hot guys having sex with each other. So I'm on board! Enjoy these good gay dramas:

Cal

Cal is an indie film by Christian Martin that was released in 2013 and is filled with hot gay boinking. Cal is a young man who is struggling with money. He wants to get out of his hometown and do better for himself, but he can't afford to. Then there is an illness in his family, so he has to stay in Bristol to take care of everyone. Will he ever rise above his station and make something of himself? That is his central drama.

Wayne Virgo plays the troubled, frustrated young man who also winds up having drama with a local pimp. He and Tom Payne (Wayne and Payne, awwww) make love, but we mostly only see Wayne's goods...and talk about goods. His thick dick is VERY good!

Weekend

If you want a romantic drama, then Weekend is definitely for you. I love this film by Andrew Haigh that does something unusual for a gay drama: it has a happy ending. Finally! This 2011 film shows us a weekend hookup between Tom Cullen and Chris New who enjoy their beautiful weekend together going from strangers to lovers. It's really lovely - especially when we see Chris and Tom show their cocks.

Their romance is one to remember. That is why I love this movie so much. They have such genuine chemistry and they are both so incredibly sexy that I find myself rooting for even more nudity (even though there is already so much). Check out this three-minute scene that shows Tom and Chris getting down and dirty in front of an open window:

The Normal Heart

Ryan Murphy is responsible for bringing us this 2014 film adapted from Larry Kramer's play about a gay activist named Ned Weeks who tries to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. Ned is played by Mark Ruffalo in a rare gay role. He may not be gay, but his costars in the movie are! Jonathan Groff and Matt Bomer are both in the movie to ensure we get our real gay fix. Bomer also gives boners when he shows his ass as he cuddles with Mark Ruffalo.

Free Fall

This German drama from Stephan Lacant is super homoerotic as it focuses on two men in uniform. Hanno Koffler and Max Riemelt meet when they train to become police officers. They fall for one another and start a long, gorgeous sexual relationship. Hey, it's not illegal to fall in love with a hot piece of man meat!

Staff Picks: Gay Dramas

There is not enough gay sex in this movie for me, but there is A LOT of dick. That is all thanks to the police locker room in which all of these guys shower together and show off their beautiful dicks. Forget the bacon, I'm here for German sausage.

Wilde

Ready to get wild? Oscar Wilde, of course. This biographical drama tells us the story of eccentric Irish writer Oscar Wilde who slept with men and women. In this film, Stephen Fry plays Wilde who is married to a woman and has had two children. He realizes that he is gay and he begins a relationship with Lord Alfred Douglas, played by the gorgeous Jude Law.

Staff Picks: Gay Dramas

The two fall in love and begin a beautiful relationship before Wilde gets arrested for being a "sodomite". This is based on a true story and maybe I will detail Oscar Wilde's true story and all of the films based on his life, but for now, let's focus on Jude Law's gorgeous ass.

Call Me By Your Name

This gay romance is one of the rare ones that broke through into the mainstream. That is because Luca Guadagnino's film is just that beautiful. Set in Italy, Timothee Chalamet plays the child of professors who spends a summer coming of age and dealing with his newfound feelings for his dad's American research assistant (Armie Hammer) who is spending the summer with them. He comes of age...and he cums...into a peach.

It's a beautiful movie. You know that. I know that. We've seen it, we love it, we can't get enough of it. I'm still out here hoping Timothee is gay!

God's Own Country

This English film has been dubbed "the British Call Me By Your Name", but that is mostly because it is a gay romance about two young men in the English countryside and they were both released in 2017. Francis Lee directed this film that stars Ian Hart and Josh O'Connor as two young men who busy themselves by having sex on an English farm. Now that's a fantasy!

Staff Picks: Gay Dramas

These two literally go for a roll in the hay...and the mud...and the bath...and the bed. They can't keep their hands off of each other and I love every single scene that shows us that. Like this one:
