The trailer for a wild new musical produced by A24 has just dropped and it is gay. Not only is it gay, but it is literally called Dicks: The Musical. Yes, you read that right. We are getting a literal movie musical about dicksand it stars a bevy of gay icons including the gay comedy duo Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp. Are you ready for the gayest and funniest movie trailer of the year? Then you NEED to check this out:
I mean...WOW. First of all, Megan Thee Stallion plays a powerful boss. Iconic. Secondly, Megan Mullaly returns to comedic greatness in what appears to be a wildly funny part playing Nathan Lane's former wife. Hilarious! Thirdly...there are songs about dicks. Now that's a great way to get a gay's attention and this film has our full attention.
Nathan Lane has never gone nude which is pretty wild to think about considering his legacy of performance. The funnyman and Broadway star can do it all. He has always been openly gay which has been fantastic for representation in media for decades now. Nathan Lane got to play an exaggerated version of himself in the classic 1996 film The Birdcage. As I said, he didn't go nude in that film...but Hank Azaria showed his ass.
Hank Azaria was not totally nude (he does go nude later in his career), but he does wear a teeny tiny string bikini that shows off his tanned and toned tush.
Back to Dicks! The film is written by Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp who also star as business rivals who find out that they are identical twins (it is hilarious considering they are obviously not identical). Thus they swap places - as full-grown men who, again, do not actually look alike - to get their parents back together. That sounds...hilarious. Seriously. That sounds so funny.
The film is clearly gay from Nathan Lane telling his former wife how gay he is to Bowen Yang appearing in an elaborate headdress. Plus Megan Thee Stallion is surrounded by hot male dancers. I might have to fan myself when I watch this movie. These guys are HOT and I hope that star Bowen Yang decides to show us a little skin again.
It is surprising that this is an A24 film because A24 is known for elevated horror and gritty indies. They have given us Uncut Gems, The LighthouseHereditary,The Florida Project, Swiss Army Man, and Moonlight. Those are A LOT of Mr. Man favorites!
After winning Best Picture for Everything Everywhere All at Once, A24 has the gravitas to expand its horizons. They have a proven track record, after all! I absolutely LOVE that they decided to do that by producing this very gay, very zany, musical. I just know we are going to laugh our asses off and get new show tunes stuck in our heads. Fingers crossed for some gay scenes, too! After all, it's A24 - not Disney - so it could happen!
