Beer here! Get your beer here! Sorry—couldn’t resist. Beer Adriaanse has a more formal name, Jacobus Petrus, but we do like the moniker you can find him under in both acting and musical endeavors. Born in Western Cape in South Africa, he’s got a degree in journalism from the University of Stellenbosch, and an advanced degree in film and media from the University of Cape Town. He’s also a founding member and drummer of the Afrikaans music group Zinkplaat. On screen, all Beer’s work is done in his home country, and he’s most often recognized for his role as Thomas van As in the series Hotel, a part he’s played from 2016-2022. He’s also written and directed numerous episodes of the popular primetime series. Where you can find him naked, though, is in the shower in the movie Canary, where he plays Corporal Crunchie (Mr. Man can’t make this stuff up). While we mostly get a view of his backside (which shows he wears small swimtrunks at the beach), we do get glimpses of his manly member, and it’s really nice. (Pause to admire.) If you’re in to South African television series, and who’s to say you aren’t, then you may recall Beer as Corné Hanekom in Fynskrif, aka Fine Print, from 2018-2020. Or you may be interested to know he’s written and directed the series Buurtwag in 2015, and the series Elkstra Medium in 2021. As for where that nickname came from? “That’s what happens in boys’ schools,” he shared during an interview. “Apparently I looked like a bear.” Bear? Yup—translated into Afrikaans, bear is beer. Bear, beer—either way is good for Mr. Man.
