After the debut of Darren Aronofsky's new film The Whale at the Venice Film Festival last week, the film's star Brendan Fraser has been enjoying renewed success. We are officially in the Brendanassaince. Welcome! Brendan "disappeared" for a while after coming forward about abuse in Hollywood. He was unfortunately blacklisted after that which is awful considering it's rare for anyone, especially men, to come forward about that kind of thing - especially in a pre-MeToo world. In the past few years, discussion about what happened to Brendan Fraser's incredibly promising career arose as new generations of people became outraged on his behalf. It's about damned time!
The humble and hot Brendan Fraser returned to the spotlight prior to The Whale in the show Doom Patrol in 2019. Not only did he return triumphantly in that show, but Brendan even showed his buns. Hell yeah, Brendan!
We saw his ass a long time before that when the 6'2" Canadian-American from Indiana showed his ass in 1992's School Ties when he showered naked with other hot young actors including Matt Damon. This steamy scene came very early in his career considering he made his film debut in 1991. It barely took a year for us to see his booty! That's how much Hollywood knew that we craved it.
It also helps that Brendan Fraser has always had a stellar reputation. Everyone has always enjoyed working with this Midwestern lad! Handsome and kind? It's unfair when you also have a George of the Jungle body:
Brendan Fraser quickly became everyone's favorite not just because he is a tall drink of water and we're all thirsty as hell. He's also SO versatile. He was hilarious in Airheads. He was strikingly beautiful in Gods and Monsters. He was family-friendly in Blast from the Past. Then he became a verified action star in 1999's The Mummy as Rick O'Connell. It seemed like everything that Brendan Fraser touched turned to gold and he left us yearning for a touch from Brendan.
A common misconception about his career is that he retired or disappeared, but that never actually happened. His roles slowed down or became relegated to TV shows or even voice-over work, but Brendan Fraser has been working steadily for years. He has had to work hard to maintain a career of any kind and I'd say he has successfully done that. Sure, he withdrew from superstar leading man roles (or was no longer offered them), but Brendan stayed humble and hot.
Let's hope The Whale is only the beginning of more incredible work from Brendan Fraser. According to his IMDB, it certianly is as he has four more upcoming films on the docket. I'm here for the new era of Brendan Fraser!
