Biography

Cedric the Entertainer is not his birth name. No, really. He was actually born Cedric Antonio Kyles but switched it when he knew his life’s purpose was, indeed, to entertain. The funny man grew up in Missouri, graduating with a degree in mass communications from Southeast Missouri State University. While pursuing a career as a stand-up comedian, he took the random job, including working in insurance. Luckily, State Farm couldn’t compete, and Cedric became known as one of the Original Kings of Comedy (it’s a thing, a good thing). His first big on-camera role came courtesy of The Steve Harvey Show, where he played Cedric Jackie Robinson from 1996-2002. He jumped to film in 2000 to play the reverend in Big Momma’s House, and he’s been working steadily ever since. On TV, he’s been Reverend Boyce in The Soul Man from 2012-2016, Mullins in The Last O.G. from 2018-2020, and Calvin Butler in The Neighborhood from 2018-2022. On the big screen, you can laugh and laugh and laugh while you watch him in Dr. Doolittle 2 (2001), Be Cool (2005), Barbershop(2002) and Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016), or The Opening Act (2020). At the top of the top five moments Mr. Man appreciates Cedric for, though, is his role as Jazzy Dee in the film Top Five (2014), where he dons a wig and takes off his clothes. At the 25 minute mark, feast your eyes on a crazy sex scene with two women, and a cowering Chris Rock. Sexy Cedric, at your service.
