Review

Writer/director Isabelle Czajka questions whether man (or woman) can live on bread alone in the French flick D’amour et d’eau fraîche (2010). Also known as Living on Love Alone, this romantic drama centers around Julie Bataille (Anaïs Demoustier). After earning a college degree, the twenty-something beauty can’t seem to find success in Paris. Fed up with working dead-end jobs, Julie amps up her ambition. En route to an interview, she meets Ben (Pio Marmaï), a sexy free spirit who takes life as it comes. When he invites her to join him for some fun in the south of France, she quickly turns down the tempting invitation. But after giving it some thought, the soul-searching sweetie agrees to tag along. While on her journey to self-discovery, we encounter Bernard (Laurent Poitrenaux), Charlotte (Armonie Sanders), Coco (Christine Brücher), Diane (Océane Mozas), Jean (Jean-Louis Coulloc’h), Laure (Adélaïde Leroux), and Mathieu (Manuel Vallade). The movie also includes Alexandre Carrière, Gregory Herpe, Guillaume VerdierJennifer Decker, Stéphane Chivot, and Monsieur Marmaï’s nudity. In a scene of carefree cuddling, the naked stud serves up his baguette and buns! In other words, when Pio shows off his pubes and peen-o, there’s no need to read the subtitles. The universally-appealing Frenchman nabbed a nomination for Most Promising Actor at the 36th César Awards, as did his leading lady in the Most Promising Actress category. Speaking for the staff at the Mr. Man offices, we are giving the handsome hunk a standing ovation in our pants for his revealing performance. Encore!
