Daniel Lapaine is one of the Down Under community of actors we Up Overs love to love. He was born in Sydney and studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, and although you may not be particularly familiar with graduates of Australian drama schools, you are definitely familiar with Daniel’s – ahem – body of work. Yes, friends and fellow male admirers, this luscious actor was the hot guy in nut-hugging swim trunks who gave Muriel the nuptials of her dreams in the movie Muriel’s Wedding (1994). The role of David Van Arkle was his first big-screen appearance, but definitely not his last. Sticking with the matrimonial theme, he was Ziggy in Polish Wedding (1998) with Claire Danes, too, and hung with the actress again as Nick Parks inBrokedown Palace (1999). He’s also been in Last Chance Harvey (2008) and The Love Punch (2013) with Emma Thompson, as well as had a part in Zero Dark Thirty (2012). You’ll also find him on numerous TV shows, as well, both in the UK and Australia. You’ll see him bare-arsed in an episode of Black Mirror, and if you haven’t seen Amazon Prime Original series Catastrophe, where Daniel played Dave from 2015-2019, what the heck are you waiting for? That’s good television, so says Mr. Man. You can also see a more aged, but still good-looking version of the hottie in two Australian series, playing Joe Chigwell in Five Bedrooms in 2021, and Toby in the Australian series Upright from 2019-2022.
