What movies or TV shows did you watch to get through quarantine?

I have officially watched and re-watched every movie and tv show Netflix has to offer. Now it’s time for Amazon. Someone recommended “Upload” so that’s where I’m headed.

What do you enjoy most about being a model?

The traveling! Getting to discover new countries, new cities, new cultures - all while working - is something I’m very grateful for.

What’s been your biggest challenge in the industry so far? How about your biggest success?

My biggest challenge has been to actually focus on myself and my dreams. I always put my life on pause for other people and that has only lead to disappointment and me having toreset my career. Let me tell you, it’s never easy - [I'm] currently getting ready for my 3rd comeback.

My biggest success I’d have to say was booking my first casting, which was for Calvin Klein back in 2010. The same day I landed in New York I was asked to go see them, booked the job, and that’s basically what put me on the map.

What’s something most people don’t realize about the modeling world that you wish they did?

When we get asked what we do for a living and we answer “modeling," everyone instantly assumes it’s an easy, effortless, and amazing job. I mean, I’d take it over any 9 to 5 any day but just like everything in life it has its challenges and its ups and downs. There are a lot of beautiful people in the world so it’s not really all about being good looking and having your pictures taken.

You got started as a model just as social media was really taking off. How have Instagram and Twitter affected your career?

I got lucky as I picked up on the social media train from day one. I’d even dare to say I was the first model out there that started using social media. Eventually, in 2010 Iwas asked to close my blog (“Never Back Down” - Where I denied the common myth about male modeling) and YouTube channel (Where I vlogged and shared my life) as my clients were scared I’d get overexposed. Theywanted me to be more “exclusive."

I did, however, keep my Twitter and as soon as Instagram launched in 2010 I created an account. I’ve always had regrets about shutting down my YouTube and not following my gut. I find myself daydreaming a lot about the “what ifs” if I would have kept my YouTube channel for over 10 years now. Not much I can do about it now. But I’m happy I kept Twitter and hopped on Instagram as these platforms play a huge role in the industry right now.

Which of your photoshoots/runway moments do people NEED to check out in order to call themselves true River Viiperi stans?

I used to have a “signature” pose. If you’re reading this and know what I’m talking about, you’re a stan haha.

And more importantly - do you get to keep the clothes?

I’ve always been pretty good at working my way through in order to be able to keep a bunch of the stuff I like from jobs... but it’s not the most usual thing.

How do you get ready for a photoshoot?

It depends on how much time you have. I love to workout so if I have enough time I’ll probably do a nice detox week of no alcohol, no partying, going to the gym, eating healthy, and drinking a lot of water. Face masks, a nice little facial, sauna... there’s so much you can do.

What do River Viiperi fans have to look forward to in 2021 and beyond?

Well, my true goal has always been acting. I recently took on a small role in a film that has been wrapped now and am currently working on a project that I’d LOVE to lock in. When I do, it will hopefully start shooting in April/March of 2021 and I’ll be able to talk more about it, but as of right now all I can say is that the people who have been following me for the past 10 years will LOVE my role too hahaha.

Do you have anything you want to say to your Mr. Man fans?

Stay loyal, stay healthy, stay positive, and don’t give up on your dreams. Also, follow me on Instagram @RiverViiperi :P
