Jerry Cantrell is known for being the backbone of the Seattle-based band Alice in Chains. The heavy metal-turned grunge guitar shredder popped eardrums and thrilled flannel-clad fans with his basic yet creative licks in hit songs like “Rooster”, “Would?”, and “Get Born Again”. The moody band hit a real snag when its frontman Layne Staley died of a drug overdose, leaving Cantrell and his other bandmates in limbo for a short period, before they would regroup and perform again with another singer. In brighter days, when the band was just gelling, Jerry showed up in the grungy romantic comedy Singles (1992) doing what he does best—jamming on stage minus his shirt, simultaneously thrill our senses of hearing and sight.
