John Dennis Johnston is an intense looking actor with a commanding voice, rugged good looks, and a memorable gaze. The talented actor began his career by earning bit roles in boob tube movies like I Want to Keep My Baby! (1976) and Steel Cowboy (1976). John hit the big time when he used his authoritative looks to portray a police officer in the hilarious classic film Annie Hall (1977). From then on, Hollywood seemed to use the manly actor for law enforcement roles. In the television series Dear Detective, John portrayed Detective Clay; he was a Special Forces member in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977); and he played a cop in The Killing of Randy Webster (1981). In the scary flick The Beast Within (1982), John showed off his hairy chest. No manscaping for him! And it was in the adventure drama Flesh & Blood (1985) where we got to see more flesh from the hunky dude. John kept busy with appearances on a plethora of popular TV shows like St. Elsewhere, MacGyver, The Golden Girls, and Walker, Texas Ranger. John’s a dying breed of actor—he’s tough, dedicated, and adaptable to any role. We just wish he would lose his shirt more often!
