One of the last true drive-in classics, The Beast Within (1982) spins the horrific tale of a woman (Bibi Besch) who gets assaulted and subsequently knocked-up by a giant monster, only to see her little boy acting rather monstrous as he transitions into adulthood. Caroline MacCleary (Bibi Besch) is traveling around Mississippi with her husband Eli (Ronny Cox) when they pull onto a desolate road and Caroline ends up ravaged by some kind of monster. After realizing she's pregnant with his monster baby, she blocks out the memory and raises the boy, who seems to be a normal child. Seventeen years later, Junior (Paul Clemens) begins a metamorphosis into a monster creature just like the one that spawned him, and, like his pop, falls under the sway of the sinister urge to find a female victim and propagate his species. Knowing the terror this little tyke could cause, Caroline heads to Mississippi to figure out what the creature who attacked her was, and if anyone knows what to do to keep her son from proving the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Being ravaged by jacked monsters with huge hairy dongs might be a pretty common female fantasy these days, but before all those horny fantasy novels this one was introducing women to a kink they didn't know they had. Mr. Man isn't much of a monster guy, so instead of that scene he really loved when Paul Clemens shucked his shirt to get a closer look at his skin-scabbing transformation. We dig that seventies chest rug and poofy hair! Later, John Dennis Johnston reminds us what a real man looks like, back before the days of manscaping. The hunky actor has so much hair on his chest, it looks like he’s hiding a beast within. Sign us to get it in with those sexy beasts, anytime!
