Good news: Kal Penn is gay! Kind of bad news for Kal fans: he is also engaged. Aw, come on, Kal! Couldn't you have given the rest of us some time to have a chance?
The 44-year-old star has done it all. He has acted in comedic blockbusters, major sitcoms, dramas, comedies, etc. He has also worked in politics as a former adviser to President Obama. Yeah, the guy from the Harold Kumar movies ended up working in politics. We're all on our own journeys!
Kal is releasing a brand new memoir called You Can't Be Serious and in it he spills the beans on his 11-year relationship. He has been with his partner and fiance Josh for 11 full years and we had no idea!
Kal joked a recent interview with People Magazine: "I shared things with my parents and close friends first. I know this sounds jokey, but it's true: When you've already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy."
He did admit that he discovered his sexuality later in life, so coming out in his 40s wasn't that out of his realm. He's a late bloomer! Both he and his Harold Kumar co-star have transformed into serious actors and people later in life. They've come a long way from showing ass in a goofy comedy:
Honestly, his journey is fascinating to me. He went from starring in bro-y movies made for straight guys like National Lampoon's Van Wilder to How I Met Your Mother. Now? He's an openly gay South Asian sensation. Good for Kal and his glorious come-up. I'm sad that I couldn't have a chance with him - I've always thought he was hot - but I'm happy for his success. Wow, it looks like I've grown on my journey, too.
