Naked Singularity (2021)

Based on the novel of the same name by Sergio De La Pava, Naked Singularity (2021) stars John Boyega as a man who loses faith in the very system he fights to uphold. Boyega plays Casi, a public defender in New York City who optimism and idealism keeps him from becoming overwhelmed by the blatant injustice he sees on display every day of his working life. Now, facing disbarment and with little left to lose in his life, Casi decides to take his fate into his own hands and make a decision that is guaranteed to alter the course of his life when he meets a police impound worker named Lea (Olivia Cooke). Lea tips him off that a criminal named Craig (Ed Skrein), with whom she has been hooking up, is teaming with a scumbag lawyer named Dane (Bill Skarsgard) to rip off a stash of Mexican drug cartel money that is making its way to Lea's impound. Seeing him as more idealistic than those two men and more likely to put the money to good use, Lea helps Casi plan a heist that will see him intercepting the money before Craig and Dane get to it, but of course there's that old saying about the best laid plans of mice and men, and everything's virtually guaranteed to go tits up! While the film is big on action, it's not very concerned with the kind of action we enjoy here at Mr. Man! Both John Boyega and Ed Skrein do go shirtless in the flick, but that's the extent of the sexy content, leaving us to wonder why the word Naked is used in the title if they're not going to deliver on that promise!
