Biography

It takes one to know one. That’s why dark-haired dance star Rudolf Nureyev (who prematurely passed away at 54) portrayed dark-haired movie star Rudolph Valentino (who prematurely passed away at 31). During their lifetimes, these Rudies were major heartthrobs. Regarded as one of the greatest male ballet dancers of his generation, Nureyev appeared alongside his long-time dance partner Margot Fonteyn in the documentary I Am a Dancer (1972). Through the 1960s,’ 70s and ’80s, the Soviet-born performer and choreographer starred on stage as the Prince in various ballets (Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty). He also took on the titular roles of Apollo, Hamlet, Orpheus, and Lucifer, as well as becoming Romeo (Romeo and Juliet) and Rev. Dimsdale (The Scarlet Letter). Yet his high cheekbones and fine physique were meant to be on camera. Even though some of his ballets were filmed for TV, fans wanted to see Nureyev on the big screen. Fortunately, director Ken Russell cast him in the biopic Valentino (1977) about the famous silent film actor. As Hollywood’s original Latin Lover, the ravishing Russian struts his stuff in the buff! While romancing co-star Michelle Phillips, Rudolf flashes his abs, ass and appendage at the 55-minute mark. Next came the R rated flick Exposed (1983) featuring Nastassja Kinski, Harvey Keitel, Ian McShane, and Rudi’s sexy presence. Alas, it was his last film. Nureyev burned bright but burned out too soon. He didn’t leave behind a great body of films, but the few he appeared in showcase his great body!
