Born and raised on the Central Coast in Australia, he graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. His first official acting gig, and the reason he’s most known to US audiences, is his role as Caliban in the Netflix seriesThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrinain 2020, which is where that sand-castle scene comes from. He sports blowing locks, speaks in a fantasy-inducing accent, and lets his unbuttoned shirt fly free in the breeze. Lucky for us, Caliban doesn’t seem to like shirts, so Sam is bare-chested for most of hisSabrinaappearances, which is a-okay with Mr. Man, since he does enjoy playing “count the abs,” and Sam is a great game board. Next up was his performance as Mr. Bingley in the US projectActing for a Cause, where famous actors perform readings of plays over video conference, benefitting charitable causes (Jacob Elordi was Mr. Darcy, in case you were wondering). Sam’s feature film debut was playing Luke inThe Dry(2020) with Eric Bana, which was shot in Australia, with everyone using their Australian accents, including Eric. Continuing his shirtless scenarios, Sam gained 20-plus pounds of muscle and grew his hair even longer to play the role of Leif Eriksson in the History seriesVikingsspin-off,Vikings: Valhalla, in 2022.
