The Long Call (2021)

The Long Call (2021) is an original British series from the British streaming service britbox that follows a detective named Matthew Venn whose father dies. He has to go back home to the very evangelical community that he grew up in so that he can pay respects to his father and help his family out with the burial and the affairs. He has left this community behind, so being back there is certainly startling. He left it all behind because he is a gay man that wants to live his life free from the conservative beliefs that his family's religious community had. But now he is needed. This evangelical community does not love outsiders nor does it like people learning about their secrets. Between his father's death and the disappearance of a young girl in the community, he feels called to help out at home to solve this mystery. Ben Aldridge plays our leading man, the sexy detective who has us wanting to solve the mystery of what he looks like without his clothes on. Only his lover played by Declan Bennett seems to know what he looks like without his clothes on...and what he is like in the sack. We do not get treated to either of these UK hunks in the flesh, but we do get to see them both make out in their tank tops. That's at least something! Then Declan gets up in the morning and leaves Ben laying in bed nude with the covers covering up his can. Hey, Ben and Declan - give us a long call!
