Even though Mr. Man might be the last place you’d expect to see celebrated German director Werner Herzog, one look at his distinguished body of work (as well as his body) will tell you he’s right at home! Through the years, the Academy Award (Encounters at the End of the World) nominated filmmaker has generated impactful documentaries (Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Grizzly Man, Lessons of Darkness, Little Dieter Needs to Fly). He’s also known for writing, directing and producing narrative movies, such as Invincible (2000) starring Tim Roth and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009) with Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes. Mr. Werner cast Bruno Schleinstein in his films The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974) and Stroszek (1977), while Klaus Kinski is showcased in Herzog’s Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), Fitzcarraldo (1982), and My Best Fiend (1999). Yet we’re more turned on by Werner’s turns on camera. No, we’re not referring to his role as “The Client” in the Disney+ live action Star Wars television series The Mandalorian (2019) or his 2015 guest spot on NBC’s improvisational sitcom Parks and Recreation (2009-2015). We’re going back to 1999 when Werner played the father in Harmony Korine’s R-rated drama Julien Donkey-Boy (1999). The dramedy about schizophrenia features Ewen Bremner, Chloë Sevigny, and Herzog’s hairy chest! While he’s wearing nothing but boxers, the nearly-nude dude drinks cough syrup out of his shoe. We don’t care what Werner does with his footwear so long as he loses his panties!
