Review

Writer, director, and professional weirdo Tim Burton took a big swing with the fantastical film Big Fish (2003). Will Bloom (Billy Crudup) has spent his whole life hearing tale tales from his father Edward (Albert Finney), including a real whopper about how he caught an enormous catfish using only his wedding ring on the day Will was born. Now that Edward is nearing the end of his life, Will's new wife Josephine (Marion Cotillard) encourages him to make amends with his father. The film then becomes a series of flashbacks where a younger Edward (Ewan McGregor) has a series of fantastical adventures that seem to push the bounds of believability. These include him taking a job at a circus where the ringmaster (Danny DeVito) is also a werewolf. He also visits a town called Spectre where everyone is at peace and everything seems idyllic, but it harbors a dark secret that may have to do with the witch (Helena Bonham Carter) living in the big house in the center of town. As Will attempts to reconcile his father's stories with the truth behind them, he also finds himself growing to love and respect his father for the first time in his life. Get the hankies ready for the tear-jerking ending, though you may be doing some jerking prior to that when you get a load of Danny DeVito's bare ass when he emerges from the woods after transforming back into his human body after being a wolf! That cute little butt of Danny's always gets us grabbing at our Big (Trouser) Fish!
