They say, “once you go black, you don’t go back” which may explain the bevy of ebony entitled flicks — from the drama Black Narcissus (1947) to the biopic Back to Black (2024) with Black Sheep (1996), Men in Black (1997), Black Hawk Down (2001), Black Swan (2010), Black Panther (2018) and Black Widow (2021) in between. Of course, Mr. Man insists we include Black Tide (2018) on this list. Not to be confused with the chiller diller Blood Tide (1982), this foreign thriller is based on Dror Mishani’s crime novel “The Missing File” (2011). The big screen adaptation follows an alcoholic cop named François Visconti (played by Vincent Cassel after Gérard Depardieu dropped out just days before the shoot). The plot begins when Visconti is tasked to locate a missing teen (Jérôme Pouly) who is the same age as his estranged son (Félix Back). Throughout the hunt, the boy’s overly friendly teacher seems like the culprit. But before the gorgeous gumshoe can point the finger, his heart and groin succumb to the missing kid’s distraught mom (Sandrine Kiberlain). Meanwhile, we can’t help falling for Mr. Cassel when he lays back in bed naked. Under the direction of Erick Zonca, we see the star’s sweaty chest and shadowy peen, which is a little out of focus. Nevertheless, we let the tide of Vincent’s sexiness wash over us. Also known as Fleuve noir, this skinternational flick features dialogue in French. Yet when Monsieur Cassel flashes his fine flesh, there’s no need for subtitles!
