Boy Erased (2018)

The always impressive Joel Edgerton shows off his acting chops while wearing his director and co-producer hats on Boy Erased (2018), for which he also adapted the screenplay from Garrard Conley’s book “Boy Erased: A Memoir” (2016). The drama centers around Jared Eamons (Lucas Hedges), a fictionalized version of Conley. He’s gay yet remains in the closet due to his Baptist parents. But when Jared’s mom (Nicole Kidman who picked up two AACTA Awards for her performance) and dad (Russell Crowe) find out, they send the kid to an organization for troubled teens run by Victor Sykes (Edgerton). Alas, this place conducts gay conversion therapy. The practice is so humiliating it sends one of the attendees, Cameron Van Heusen (Britton Sear), off the deep end. As such, Jared calls his mom to come and rescue him. She does as he wants despite the fact that her hubby is against it. Eventually, Jared embraces his sexuality and moves to the Big Apple to find some big eggplants. Along the way, we encounter Dr. Muldoon (Cherry Jones), Brandon (Flea), Chloe (Madelyn Cline), Gary (Troye Sivan), Jon (Xavier Dolan), Xavier (Théodore Pellerin), and Joe Alwyn’s beautiful bod! As Henry Wallace, the latter actor touts his toned torso. Not to be outdone, Mr. Hedges also struts his shirtless stuff. No wonder the movie won the Audience Award at the San Diego International Film Festival. Even though these topless hotties don’t expose their junk, you won’t be able to erase their awesome abs from your spank bank!
