Broken City (2013)

A disgraced cop seeks justice outside of the legal system in the star-studded crime drama Broken City (2013). Everyone knows Mikey Tavarez (Luis Tolentino) sexually assaulted a sixteen-year-old girl but got off on a legal technicality. So, when NYPD detective Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) kills him, Mayor Nicholas Hostetler (Russell Crowe) pulls some strings and buries some evidence so that the whole thing is declared an act of self-defense. Still, he is forced to retire from the force. Years later, he's working as a private detective when he's hired by Mayor Hostetler to tail Hostetler's wife Irene (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and figure out if she's cheating on him. Instead, he finds that she's spending time with Paul Andrews (Kyle Chandler), the man running the election campaign of Hostetler's political rival (Barry Pepper) going over gameplans for how to beat her hubby. When Andrews ends up dead, Taggart discovers that Hostetler is planning to demolish a housing project and leave thousands of people homeless. Soon, he's drawn into a web of blackmail and murder. But even if Taggart wants to stop Hostetler's plans, does the fact that Hostetler knows his biggest secret mean he won't get that option?
