Insecure (2016-2021)

The portrayal of Black women on television has rarely, if ever, reached the sincerity, wit, and cultural significance as it did in HBO original series Insecure. Stanford grad Issa Rae blew up with her Youtube series Awkward Black Girl that Pharrell was a huge fan of, then transitioned to HBO's Emmy nominated hit show in 2015 with a rumored 40-million-dollar deal. Bag secured! Like in her web series, Issa stars as herself as she hangs out with her Stanford bestie Molly (Yvonne Orji) all the time, as they navigate their late-20's in Los Angeles. Molly's a highly successful lawyer who scares off men with her smarts and wealth, while Issa works for a non-profit while lusting after her on-again off-again boyfriend Lawrence (Jay Ellis). Lawrence is one of those guys who always has a great idea but sees all sorts of businesses and app ideas fail every season, but he's hot enough that Issa can't let go of him. Neither can anyone else, since he's always in bed with a new babe! For five seasons viewers watched as Issa, Molly and Lawrence tried to figure out their lives, with critics of color applauding the lack of trauma that shows about black people have so often relied on. This big step for black women on television is also big on the hot dudes. Y’lan Noel, Kendrick Sampson, Jay Ellis, Sarunas J. Jackson, and more all go ass-out in different episodes! If you're into beefier boys, Reggie Conquest is Issa's sexual conquest you'll like the best, since his big black booty is shaking her bed!
