At the 2010 X Games, Kurt Yaeger became the first amputee to do a backflip on a BMX bike (you can see a video of it on YouTube). Before a serious motorcycle accident in 2006, the intense, dark-haired actor was known on the BMX circuit as “Crowbar,” and although he still rides both bikes and motorcycles on the regular, he’s switched his main focus to acting in the years following his accident. “The only thing harder than BMX is making it in entertainment,” he told ESPN. “Once I faced death, I needed a more impossible goal.” It wasn’t impossible, though, and Kurt has the credits to prove it. You may recognize him from his role as Greg the Peg on Sons of Anarchy in 2012. Or for his role as Sullivan in NCIS: Los Angeles from 2016-2017. It could be you’ve admired his bare butt as Suggs in Quarry in 2016, or counted his abs as he’s gone shirtless as Dillon Conner in Another Life in 2021. He’s also had regular roles as Leonard Freeman in Personal Space in 2018, Terry Mitchell in Tell Me A Story from 2018-2019, Joe in The Village in 2019, and Clete Winslow in L.A.’s Finestin 2020. On the big screen, he’s done bit roles in Charlie Wilson’s War (2007) with Tom Hanks; Dolphin Tale(2011) with Morgan Freeman; Knife Fight (2012) with Rob Lowe; Triple 9 (2016) with Casey Affleck; The Festival (2018), where he unstraps his prosthetic limb while getting hot and heavy with a babe as The Pirate; and The Beanie Bubble (2022) with Elizabeth Banks. He’s also on the Performers with Disabilities committee for SAG/AFTRA, advocating for actors with disabilities to be included in roles not necessarily written for the disabled.
