Review

At 90 minutes, the indie flick Molly Maxwell (2012) may be brief but that doesn’t mean it won’t make you long in the shorts! Sara St. Onge’s coming-of-age drama follows the titular character (Lola Tash) as she tries to make her way through Phoenix Progressive School. Even though it’s an alternative teaching institution for artsy students, Molly has yet to pick her specialty which is essential if she wants to graduate. While her fellow students Caitlin (Brooke Palsson) and Starr (Alex Ozerov-Meyer) are excelling, Molly is struggling with banjo playing, graphic novel writing, and break dancing. Since nothing is going her way, the alluring underachiever looks to the sexy English teacher, Ben Carter (Charlie Carrick), to help her determine a path to success. Yet instead of focusing on her future, Molly works her charms and tries to seduce her handsome advisor. When the teacher and student get too close, Molly begins to alienate everyone important in her life. Will this naughty schoolgirl ever mature enough to move on to the next stage of her life? Well, you gotta watch the film to find out. You also have to see this pic to get a gander at Mr. Carrick’s hairy chest and bulging skivvies when he’s in bed with Molly. Looks like someone’s getting an A! Nevertheless, Charlie is one teacher Mr. Man would love to spend detention with. The film won a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Costume Design but we’d prefer if the movie didn’t have any costumes at all!
