Salvation Army (2013)

Set in Morocco, the coming-of-age drama Salvation Army (2013) follows Abdellah (Said Mrini), a gay teenager growing up in a large family in a working class neighborhood, living in a society that isn’t tolerant of homosexuality. Making life more difficult for Abdellah is his distant, abusive dad, strict mother, and burning hormones. That’s a trifecta that would drive anyone mad! There’s one bright spot in Abdellah’s life—his older brother Slimane (Amine Ennaji), who he seems to have a strong infatuation for. Ten years later, Abdellah leaves his home country and finds himself in a relationship with an older Swiss professor Jean (Frederic Landenberg), but has he finally found happiness and contentment?
