After the death of Robert Towne earlier this week, I've been thinking heavily about screenwriters. Without screenwriters, we wouldn't have movies! They are like architects designing movie blueprints and that includes nude scenes. Those dirty dogs writing the film are usually the ones who come up with the nude scenes that are later shot for our pleasure.
So what other screenwriters have written great nude scenes? Here are some that I've come up with after much hard research.
Eric Roth
Eric Roth might just be the best screenwriter working today. He has written everything from Forrest Gump to the recent award-winning film Killers of the Flower Moon and Dune: Part One. He took a stab at the most recent adaptation of A Star is Born which cements him in a weird part of Hollywood history. If you list your favorite films, there is a good chance that Eric wrote at least one of them.
Abi Morgan
Abi Morgan is an unsung hero because she wrote the 2011 film Shame. Morgan has written several other award-winning and critically acclaimed films, but there is nothing quite like Shame. Shame told the unique story of a sex addict played by big-dicked dude Michael Fassbender. We got to watch his member swing in front of the camera with no shame.
Ruth Prawer Jhabvala
Ruth is an incredibly underrated name in Hollywood. She is the mind behind so many films - and so many nude scenes - that it's criminal she is not better known. She worked diligently on several scripts and did punch-ups on other people's work. She was also not shy about nudity. You can see what I mean by watching this scene in 1985's A Room With a View which features a VERY naked scene filled with dudity. This scene is over three minutes long:
Director James Ivory worked with Ruth A LOT. They co-wrote several scripts and he directed many of her screenplays such as Heat and Dust and Quartet which was a pretty penis-forward film for 1981.
James Ivory also penned a script that we all know and love: Call Me By Your Name. These two know intimacy!
William Goldman
William Goldman is one of the most well-known screenwriters of the 20th century. He is the mind behind such classic films as All The President's Men, The Stepford Wives, Heat, Misery, and even The Princess Bride. Talk about writing the classics! Goldman knows how to craft a compelling story and it shows. But what about nude scenes?
Don't worry. He can do those too. From Dustin Hoffman's buns in Marathon Man to some muscular ass from Michael Gerald in The General's Daughter, Goldman knows that throwing in a naked man will get us going wild.
Yorgos Lanthimos
While Yorgos Lanthimos is best known for his directing styles and the films that he has directed in recent years which became critical successes such as Poor Things and The Favourite, his original screenplays contain loads of nudity. Sure, the films that he didn't write get more praise than the ones that he has written. However, the nudity in his original scripts is astounding.
Check out his original scripts such as Dogtooth with its four nude scenes, including cock and balls. Watch one of those cocky scenes here:
