Whenever anyone thinks of The Netherlands, we're sure they are going to mention clogs, windmills, legal weed, the redlight district of Amsterdam, and maybe Van Gogh...  What is severely overlooked in the beautiful nation is the fact that they stood up to those jack booted thugs who were trying to take over Europe in the 30s and 40s, better known as The Nazis.  That is correct, The Dutch lead a swift and powerful resistance to the German occupation of Europe on their home land, mostly by helping to shelter Jewish refugees, committing acts of sabotage against the German army, and of course the strategic killing of officers throughout the occupation.  In this fact based story by legendary director Paul Verhoeven about the Dutch resistance, we follow a group of students in Holland, spanning from the time of the Nazi invasion of The Netherlands, their brutal occupation and deportation of Jewish citizens to the death camps, to the eventual liberation and defeat of the Nazis.  Along the way, we get to see a young Hutger Hauer as the leader of the band of rebels, in all his dashing blue eyed glory.  We also get a young Huib Rooyams in a leading role as well, but it's the bubble butted Derek de Lint, who gives us the best glimpse of man meat when he goes to the outhouse and drops trou for a mid-invasion boom-boom whilst the bombs are dropping around him!  It's a classic flick that actually garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language film and helped introduce the world to the young director Paul Verhoeven, pre Robocop (1987), Total Recall (1990), and Showgirls (1995).
