Our Staff Picks column is a new addition that takes you back to a time when video stores reigned supreme and the "Staff Picks" section was the place to find out what films were worthy of one's time. Of course, our version has a decidedly nude angle, as we suss out which films from a certain genre with great nudity. This week: musicals!
Musicals are beloved, but they are rarely known for being explicitly risque. That's such a misconception because there are quite a few musicals, both onstage and onscreen, that feature sex, drugs, and nudity. These are some of those musicals! Here are my Staff Picks for musicals with nudity:
Hello Again
Say hello to this musical romance that takes us through generations of relationships in New York City. This film was inspired by the movie La Ronde in its style which means that we go through ten different relationships and one person is carried over into the next. You'll get it when you watch it! What you will really get is Sam Underwood's booty.
We also get to enjoy Tyler Blackburn and Cheyenne Jackson making sweet, passionate love - while singing. Hey, whatever floats your notes.
Hair
I absolutely love Hair. It's one of my favorite musicals, period. I think that this Milos Forman adaptation of the Broadway hit is just as good, if not better than the live show. The movie adds a bit more to the plot which leads to its exciting ending. Part of that ending involves seeing Treat Williams' buns and backsack!
The hippie rock opera follows a country boy named Claude Burger played by John Savage who gets drafted to fight in Vietnam. He wants to visit New York City before he ships out, so he takes a bun out to The Big Apple where he meets a crew of hippies that teach him all about sex, love, and drugs. Claude was ready to go to war, but now he doesn't want to. He wants to hang out with hippies!
There is a montage of nudity in the movie when a bevy of boys are inspected by the US army to see who is fit to fight. That gives us dicks and buns of all sizes to enjoy, like this one:
Waiting in the Wings
This 2014 movie musical is a sendup of all things theater. Jeffrey A. Johns plays a small town dancer who wins a local talent competition. He meets Tony, played by Adam Huss, who is a stripper in the city. The two of them love competing in dance competitions...albeit very different kinds.
So things get hilarious when they accidentally sign up for the other person's type of dance competition. Uh oh! This movie is filled with dance numbers that feature ass from hunks like K.C. Morgan and Blake Peyrot.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
John Cameron Mitchell made a name for himself by starring in this film adaptation of the Off-Broadway hit. He also directed it! The story follows Hedwig who was born in Communist Berlin. He wants to make it out of Germany to become a famous musician in America. He falls in love with an American soldier played by Maurice Dean Wint which makes his dream feel closer than ever.
His lover wants him to transition in order to be with him in America. He agrees to surgery, but it gets botched and leaves him with "an angry inch". Hey, that's the title! That's only the beginning. Hedwig has more heartbreak and hardship in this erotic musical.
Across the Universe
Across the Universe was A MOMENT. This Julie Taymor jukebox musical that features Beatles songs entranced young people with its creative use of Beatles songs and its vibrant colors. It also features hot young men who show their buns. Joe Anderson plays Max Carrigan in the movie and he has two ass-forward scenes, including one where he floats ass-backwards in the water.
20 Centimeters
Here's a musical that you likely haven't heard of that has dick in it. That's something to sing about! This movie musical comes to us from Spain and it follows a trans woman who is saving money for gender-affirming surgery, but then she falls in love with a new man - Pablo Puyol - who doesn't want her to have the surgery. Now she's torn. Should she make her man happy and keep her penis or go through with the surgery that had her heart set on?
The plot might feel a little convoluted, but it gets even more so when you also learn that our leading lady has narcolepsy. When she falls asleep, she dreams that she is in a musical which gives the movie its many musical numbers. You might wonder why she cares what Pablo thinks, but when you take a look at Pablo's uncut cock you might want to do anything to make him happy just like she does. Is 20 centimeters a lot because that dick looks huge!
Mamma Mia!
Everyone and their mother loves Mamma Mia! and for good reason. The music, all written by ABBA originally, is fun. The setting is the gorgeous Greek Islands. The stars are female powerhouses. And the men? Oh, the men are something to write home about. Amanda Seyfriend tries to figure out which of three men might be her father: Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, and Colin Firth. What a group to choose from!
Her fiance is played by Dominic Cooper who shows off his beautiful booty. Mamma mia, what an ass!
Annette
New to the list is Annette, last year's totally bizarre story about an artistic couple who fall in love and have a baby that is a prodigy in the arts. Things you have likely heard about the movie because they made headlines and memes are the fact that the baby is played by a puppet and that star Adam Driver sings into Marion Cotillard's hooha as he goes down on her. But have you also heard that Adam shows hole?
It's true! Adam Driver plays a standup comedian who ends his show with the best punchline of all: his butthole. He knows the saying in show business: always leave them wanting more!
