Biography

Dubbed the “King of Cool,” Steve McQueen was an alluring antihero from the Hoosier State who took Hollywood by storm. But before he became a pop culture icon, the brave babe enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1947. After guarding the presidential yacht of Harry Truman and being honorably discharged in 1950, Steve set his sights on acting. He trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City and made his Broadway debut in A Hatful of Rain in 1955. Soon after, the hunky stunner made his movie debut with a bit part in Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) starring Paul Newman. He then landed the lead in the low-budget sci-fi classic The Blob (1958). Hey, you gotta start somewhere! Drawing on his military service, Steve secured roles in World War II-themed films, such as Never So Few (1959), Hell is for Heroes (1962), The War Lover (1962), The Great Escape (1963), and The Sand Pebbles (1966). War is hell, but Steve is heavenly in uniform! On screen, the rugged romancer wooed Natalie Wood in Love With the Proper Stranger (1963) and Faye Dunaway in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968). Otherwise, he was furthering his bad boy reputation with The Cincinnati Kid (1965), Bullitt (1968), and The Getaway (1972). The latter has the shirtless stud parading his pecs for his true love Ali MacGraw. Before battling cancer, the motorcycle man made the disaster flick The Towering Inferno (1974). Even today, fans have a fire in their pants for this eternal hottie!
