Review

Set in Chicago in the late 90s, the low budget thriller The Barber (2014) follows police detective Thomas McCormack (Thomas Calabro) as he finally gets a break in a serial killer case with the arrest of suspect Eugene (Scott Glenn). Because McCormack doesn’t have any credible evidence to hold the suspected killer, he is released, and the disappointed detective kills himself in despair over his inability to solve the case. That’s a real downer. Fast-forward twenty-years later, and the deceased cop’s son John (Chris Coy) picks up where his dear ol’ dad left off and tries to solve the cold case. After John tracks down Eugene in a small town where he works as a barber, hence the title, he tells him that he’s an aspiring serial killer who’s studied all of Eugene’s crimes and wants to become his apprentice of sorts. Apprehensive at first, the two eventually begin spending some time together, leading Eugene to start going into details about his many crimes.

There’s a lot of suspense and tension, but there’s no real nudity. We do get to see Chris Coy minus his shirt as he wakes up in the morning. Looking good, Chris!
