We love when men take their clothes off and we especially love movies about men who do that. While female strippers are a dime a dozen in cinema, male strippers are not as frequently showcased. In recent years there have been a few great films that focus on male strippers and I am here to rank them. Here is the definitive ranking of male stripper movies.
6. La Bare
Let's start with a sexy documentary about stripping from a male point of view. Joe Manganiello played a male stripper, so he was interested in the subject. He directed this film that focuses on real male strippers like Randy Ricks who has been in the business for a long time.
5. Magic Mike's Last Dance
The final film in the Magic Mike trilogy (is it an official trilogy?) stars Salma Hayek and Channing Tatum who have a ton of chemistry onscreen. This film does, sadly, pale in comparison to the others because it does not have as much nudity. We do see Tatum's tush though!
4. Magic Mike
Magic Mike is THE male stripper movie. This 2012 film was a HUGE hit, making audiences squeal at the shirtless men dancing. Channing Tatum became a boner-fide star as the male stripper in this Stephen Soderbergh drama that shows the drama behind the scenes in these men's lives.
I'll say something controversial here: I do not love the plot of Magic Mike. I don't think it needs one. I wanted to see naked men and lots of them. The two films that followed the original course corrected and focused on dancing and frivolity rather than hardcore drama. Let's just see hardcore scenes!
3. Chocolate City
Inspired by the success and storytelling of Magic Mike, Chocolate City essentially puts a Black spin on the strip club film. Robert Ri'chard plays a college student struggling to pay his way through school. He is convinced to try out for a local strip club's amateur night. He becomes a hit at the club, but he has to keep his new job a secret from his family and his girlfriend.
A LOT of gorgeous Black men are in this movie. Tyson Beckford, Ginuwine, and Michael Bolwaire would go on to play a stripper again in All the Queen's Men. If you have a sweet tooth, then come down to Chocolate City.
2. Magic Mike XXL
While it is a sequel to the hit 2012 film, it has a lot more fun. That bumps it up on my list! This film takes place 3 years after Mike left his stripping life behind. When he learns that his old boss left the business, he comes to Myrtle Beach to find the Kings of Tampa for one more show that is sure to please the crowd.
1. The Full Monty
I love The Full Monty! This is a tender, funny film with a lot of hot men of all different kinds of body types of ogle. The 90s movie is set in Sheffield, England, where unemployed steelworkers are strapped for cash. They decide to turn their lives around by stripping for cash! They start a striptease show and the women come crawling!
The movie is more than just hunks. The guys involved go through big journeys such as Mark Addy's character struggling with body issues. It's a rare film that speaks on male insecurities about their bodies and celebrates hot male men of all kinds! This mix of humor and drama makes The Full Monty super accessible to all kinds of audiences. The stripping is what makes it a favorite at Man Central!
