Who knew a little British flick would become the toast of Tinseltown with Oscar noms for Best Picture, Director, Original Score and Original Screenplay? Well, it happened with The Full Monty (1997), not to be confused with the Broadway musical of the same name. The action kicks in when the once-thriving steel mills of Sheffield shut down and its workers find themselves in the unemployment line. As such, the laid-off dudes decide to take off their clothes and form a male striptease act. The only problem for the Chippendale wannabes is that they first must get over their personal issues and body images to deliver the full monty to a full house of adoring ladies. Even though they don’t go full frontal as the title promises, the ragtag guys spice up this R-rated romp with shots of their bulging briefs and be-thonged butts. How cheeky! No wonder why the box office hit beat out Titanic (1997) starring Leonardo DiCaprio and L.A. Confidential (1997) starring Russell Crowe for the Best Picture prize at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards. Of course, it goes without saying that Mr. Man has a statuette in his pants for the skintastic actors who flashed their flesh on camera. Check out Gary “Gaz” Schofield (Robert Carlyle), Dave Horsfall (Mark Addy), Barrington “Horse” Mitchell (Paul Barber), Lomper (Steve Huison), Guy (Hugo Speer), and Gerald Arthur Cooper (Tom Wilkinson). Needless to say, these bodacious blokes will get you in the mood to have sex … with yourself!
