The Wood (1999)

Before filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa received an NAACP Image Award for writing the movie Talk To Me (2007), he won us over with The Wood (1999). Not to be confused with the mystery The Woods (2020), this coming-of-age dramedy follows Mike Tarver (Omar Epps), Slim Hightower (Richard T. Jones) and Roland Blackmon (Taye Diggs) who have been friends since childhood. Through the years, the guys have gotten to know each other while Mike’s gotten close to Alicia (Sanaa Lathan). When the three amigos get ready for Roland’s wedding to Lisa (LisaRaye McCoy), the groom gets cold feet and disappears. While Mike and Slim search for him, Mike starts to reminisce about the adventures they’ve shared in the past. In the present, Roland ralphs on his buddies so they stop at the home belonging to his ex-girlfriend (Tamala Jones) to clean up. She sends them to the backyard to hose down and that’s when the flesh-flashing fun begins! Luckily for us, Mr. Diggs, Mr. Epps and Mr. Jones doff their duds to get clean. As such, the nude dudes spray each other (with water) as they scrub up together. The skintastic act lets us ogle their chiseled physiques. In fact, all it takes is just one glance at their wet pecs and firm buns to make audience members splash their pants! To put a cherry on this man candy sundae, there are quick shots of their ebony love rocks dangling during the slippery scene. Maybe that’s why this arousing flick is entitled The Wood!
