The Land of Women (2023)

Set on the island of Sardinia in the early 20th century, the Italian drama La Terra Delle Donne, or The Land of Women (2023), tells of a pre-industrialized time on the island when tradition dictated that the seventh daughter born to any family is taken from her family and raised apart from all men. Thought to be witches, they are taught midwifery and birth all of the babies born in their villages, and the film follows Fidela (Paola Sini), an older woman who has developed motherly feelings for both Bastiana (Syama Rayner) and Marianna (Maria Teresa Campus), two girls she helped raise into this tradition. One of the few men in the film, Freddie Fox adds a little spice to the dish by crouching nude on the floor for a photograph, and though we don't see any of his naughty bits, Freddie will still drive you crazy as a Fox!
