The Little Mermaid (2023)

It's better down where it's wetter, take it from us! A lot was riding on the 2023 live-action adaptation of Disney's beloved animated classic The Little Mermaid, and thankfully the result does not disappoint. Possessing the voice of a siren herself, star Halle Bailey takes on the iconic role of Ariel, the human-obsessed (and prince-obsessed) mermaid who defies her father and makes a deal with a sea witch in order to live on land. Literally same tho! The live-action adaptation mostly sticks to the original but throws in a few surprises, as well as explains some plot holes. Speaking of holes. Many a young gay can credit his sexual awakening to Prince Eric from the animated version of The Little Mermaid, so for us, I mean, for those people, this was the movie's make-or-break casting decision. We are happy to report that Jonah Hauer-King perfectly embodies everything that we love about Prince Eric. The puppy dog eyes. The chiseled jaw. The bare chest. Thankfully the house of mouse throws us a bone with a couple of shots of the real-live Prince Eric shirtless! He's putting the bawdy in bawdy language!
