The Queen's Gambit (2020)

The Queen's Gambit (2020) is a Netflix original mini-series years in the making that stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a chess prodigy. The story begins when she was an eight-year-old orphan who was tossed around between foster homes and orphanages after her mother has struggled with mental illness. Her whole life was a struggle, so she eventually finds herself through chess. When she starts playing chess, she begins to see a way for herself to find independence and her own way through life. She took naturally to the game as soon as she started playing when she was a young girl and then she continued to compete in chess tournaments that garnered her a lot of acclaim and attention. Of course, attention isn't always a good thing because not everyone can handle it well. It's not the fame that really gets to her, however. It's her oncoming battle with psychosis. She worries that she has inherited her mother's mental illnesses or is she developing problems of her own? Either way, she has to learn some real-life strategy - much like chess! - to make it through life unscathed and continue her reign as a chess queen. One such character who helps her is Benny played by the handsome Thomas Brodie-Singer. He is a strange cat, but he shows off his shirtless chest in scenes where he wears an open robe. Look at his tiny nipples and lean stomach! The Queens Gambit has shown us a terrific king and we'd love to be his pawn.
