Tough Love (2015)

Tough Love is a dramaticized documentary about the infamous German karate champion Andreas Marquardt, a dude with one of the roughest pasts we've ever seen depicted on screen. The movie begins in the present day, with the actual Marquardt telling the story of his childhood: An abusive father was pushed out of the picture when Andreas was only six, but unfortunately life didn't get any better afterward. His mother sexually abused him for many years, ultimately creating a deeply misogynistic man who turned to karate as an outlet for his anger. The pros: He became really, really good at fighting. The cons: He also became a pimp, peddling girls through the use violence and coercion. Eventually he managed to form a genuine bond with a woman named Marion, though the beating he gave another landed him in jail for eight years. When he emerged, he and Marion got together as a real couple and started karate schools for inner city kids. You didn't think that would have a happy ending, did you? 

The footage of Andreas today is interspersed with cinematic shots of Hanno Koffler, who bares his buns and partial peen from the side at one point! Now that's exactly the kind of relief we needed.
