Through the years, moviegoers flocked to see actors rock roles based on real life cops. Al Pacino shot to fame as New York City Policeman Serpico (1973). Johnny Depp won over fans as FBI undercover agent Donnie Brasco (1997). And Thomas Jane piqued our interest (among other things) as Officer Stander (2003). Although men in blue can be judged in the public perception as heroes or villains, they aren’t immune to human emotions. Under the pen of Bima Stagg and direction of Bronwen Hughes, the latter flick follows the true story of white South African homicide captain Andre Stander who embarks on a bank-robbing spree. The busy thief knocks off as many as four branches a day, before returning to the crime scenes to lead the investigations into solving the heists. Talk about a multitasker! If this type of rogue behavior occurred in Louisiana or Los Angeles, the perpetrator would be reviled as a criminal blind to the mores of society. Stander, however, turned to larceny as a reaction to his forced participation in the brutal policies of apartheid. As a result, his extracurricular exploits elevated him to folk hero status. And if being sexy is a crime, consider Mr. Jane guilty as charged. The blonde babe bares is abs, sack, shaft and crack while frolicking on the beach just five minutes into the movie. If that’s not hot enough, the hottie dances around in the buff at the 22-minute mark. Needless to say, this safe-cracker has the combination you’re looking for!
