The unintentionally hilarious biopic The Devil’s Violinist (2013) chronicles the life of Italian violinist Niccolò Paganini (David Garrett), who enjoyed some fame and fortune in the early 19th Century, thanks to his supposed Faustian pact with the mysterious Count Urbani (Jared Harris), that exchanged musical superstardom in return for dominion over his life and soul. In a matter of time, the grungy-looking, mascara-wearing violinist starts enjoying the perks of fame, mainly drugs and women, as he wows Europe with his talents. It seems as though London is clamoring for some performances from Niccolò, and Brit impresario John Watson (Christian McKay) and his mistress Elisabeth Wells (Veronica Ferres) lead the way in securing the talent’s tour of England, a locale he doesn’t want to visit. When in London, Niccolò finds time to put down the violin, pick up his skin flute, and play a tempting tune for Elisabeth. David Garrett, a real life concert violinist, manages to show next to nothing during two steamy sex scenes, both interrupted by some prying eyes. Talk about ending on a sour note!
