Triple 9 (2016)

Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Gal Gadot, Kate Winslet, and Woody Harrelson add thrills to the American thriller Triple 9 (2016), not to be confused with the British drama The Triple Echo (1972) featuring Oliver Reed and Brian Deacon. Even though this pic boasts an all-star cast, it received mixed reviews at best. Perhaps the ratings (among other things) would have gone up if there was more flesh flashed. Under the direction of John Hillcoat, the crime flick takes the cops and robbers concept to the next level with several plot twists and great action sequences. The story kicks off when a group of thieves are blackmailed by a disgruntled boss into pulling off a seemingly impossible heist. One of the baddies is Det. Marcus Belmont (Anthony Mackie). Like Det. Franco Rodriguez (Clifton Collins Jr.), Belmont is a corrupt cop. As such, he tries to set up his good guy partner Det. Chris Allen (Affleck) in an effort to save his own ass. Allen, however, isn’t as easy of a target as Belmont figured, and he ends up giving the criminals a run for their money. Along the way, we encounter Det. Trina Ling (Michelle Ang), Michelle Allen (Teresa Palmer), Russell Welch (Norman Reedus), Sweet Pea (Michael K. Williams), and the skin on Aaron Paul. As Gabriel “Gabe” Welch, the latter actor offers viewers a sweet treat. That is, he displays his naked T&A while resting in bed at the 01:12:21-minute mark. Hey Aaron, next time show Mr. Man your Triple 9 incher!
