This story is very fitting for the times and is actually based on a somewhat true story. Woke follows successful New York and African-American cartoonist, Keef Knight (Lamorne Morris), who began his career doodling adorable little toast figures and is regularly assumed to be white by his reading audience as they just blindly think so. When he gets close to making it to the big times, he is put in a situation that opens his eyes to the real world which he has escaped for so long. He is confused for a violent offender by the police and is basically beaten up by a group of racist cops who think they caught the bad guy, but they basically just assumed so based on the fact the Keef is also black and around the same height. Now that Keef is trying to move on from the traumatizing experience of modern American police brutality, he's beginning to see things different AND when we say SEE THINGS, we mean quite literally as he's having visions and conversations with trash cans, beer bottles, his pen, and pretty much anything that he interacts with that is now talking to him for real. He's seeing the world through a different lens now, he's Woke and it's going to affect every aspect of his life moving forward, including his friendships, family, and most importantly his work! No more cute cartoons for Keef as he now wants to use his gift to let the world know how the life of a modern black dude in New York sees the world, warts and all, and there is nothing that is going to stop him from being Woke constantly! The ever sexy Lamorne Morris plays the lead and Workaholics' Blake Anderson as well as Shannon Kook are on board for the sexy studs in this comedic and eye opening dramedy from Hulu.
