Born in New York but transplanted to Tennessee as a toddler, this southern-raised boy had his sights set on a career in Hollywood from early on, leaving home at the age of 17 to graduate high school from the North Carolina School of the Arts. He got his degree in acting from the University of Southern California, and made his feature-film debut as DragonSlayer1985 in the movie Herpes Boy (2009) (not as weird as it sounds; good cast, excellent debut choice). After a whole lot of short films, he landed the role of Eliot in the indie series Go-Go Boy Interruptedfrom 2014-2016. While gainfully employed, he also made his first hit primetime appearance, playing Ian in Hot in Cleveland in 2015. He did a guest spot as Jorge on Life in Pieces that same year, then grabbed the recurring role of Wesley Masters in Jane the Virgin from 2015-2016.
In 2017 Alvarez delivered his best role to date in Everything Is Free, where he plays a depressed gay artist hiding out in Columbia.
