Steve (Scott Caan) is a troubled teen living in Los Angeles with his father in A Boy Called Hate (1995). After a brief run in with the police, Steve gets the word “hate” tattooed on his arm, forever becoming his nickname. Hate’s father (James Caan) isn’t much help—he’s busy bilking worker’s comp from a former employer. After witnessing an attempted crime, the tattooed teen shoots the attacker and takes off with Cindy (Missy Crider), the young victim, on his motorcycle. The criminal survives and turns out to be the assistant D.A. (Elliot Gould), who falsely reports that he was a victim of a robbery, sending the police after Hate. As the two teens try to get out of town, they are pulled over by a cop, further complicating the storyline. While on the road, during a pit stop, the younger Caan pumps Crider in a gas station bathroom, briefly exposing his youthful rear. There’s nothing to hate about Caan’s can.
