Bo Burnham: Inside (2021) is the 2021 special from wunderkind comedian Bo Burnham. Bo, in case you did not know, became famous as a teenager on the internet with his funny songs. Bo Burnham has since suffered from panic attacks due to his internet stardom, so he had previously backed away from performing. He made a marvelous pivot to filmmaking and is the writer and director behind the film Eighth Grade. This is all to say that this guy CLEARLY knows how to make a comedy special look like an inventive new piece of movie-making. Inside does exactly that as Bo Burnham lets us inside a single-room studio that he used to spend his quarantine in. He starts off with goofy songs and observations about early pandemic life, but as the Covid-19 pandemic drags on, Bo becomes more and more unhinged. His beard gets longer, his songs get depressing and more honest about his mental health, and his production gimmicks get even more creative. It's a fascinating look at what being creative was like in 2020. Bo is not only at his most creative, but he is also at his most sexual. He goes shirtless a number of times. In a song about sexting, he poses in his underwear and lets us check out that bulge. At one point, he sweats like crazy and lets us see some closeups of his happy trail. Okay, damn! Who knew he could be funny AND sexy? Plus, watch him sit at his keyboard totally nude. We don't see much, but we love this little tease that has us wishing we could be INSIDE Bo Burnham. Bo, will you be our bae?
