Brother Sun, Sister Moon

Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972)

Brief Nudity

Review

The Franco Zeffirelli-directed drama Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972) dramatizes the life of St. Francis of Assisi (Graham Faulkner), the twelfth-century spoiled fellow that ditched his carefree life of luxury to amp up his devotion to Christianity, thanks to some post-war trauma full of holy visions and insights. As the well intentioned Francis continues to rage against the material vices of the world, he slowly garners a devoted following of like-minded people, while working to rebuild the chapel of San Damiano. The hippie-like movement soon catches the ire of the Bishop (John Sharp), who echoes the concerns of the rich and elite. Facing an uphill battle, everything changes when Pope Innocent III (Alec Guinness) gives his blessings to St. Francis. More importantly, Graham Faulkner blesses us with his naked body and fine behind. Brother Sun, Sister Moon? More like “Brother Sun, Sister Moon, and Faulkner’s fanny”!
