The ambitious sci fi drama Creative Control (2015) draws parallels between technological advancement, isolation, and the changing boundaries of our personal and private lives. The flick’s writer and director Benjamin Dickinson plays David, an anxiety-ridden marking professional in charge of rolling out a major project. With substance abuse, a lackluster relationship, and a strong reliance on technology, the New Yorker finds himself a depressed mess. It just so happens that David has taken a shining to his friend’s girlfriend, and it just so happens that he has the resources to make a digital avatar of her. The relationship he forms with this avatar has an unforeseen impact on his friendship, and even his sanity.
