Born in Park Ridge, Illinois (hop, skip, and a jump from Mr. Man’s Chicago offices), Gary caught the acting bug when he played Snoopy in a high school production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He worked on stage in the Windy City, and by 1998 was a TV star in the series Midnight Caller, playing the lead Jack “Nighthawk” Killian from 1988-1991. Cult fame followed his performances as Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) and its sequels, followed by the smarmy Bill in Office Space. He’s had numerous roles in primetime television series, including the role of Vice President Bob Russell in The West Wing from 2003-2006, Kurt McVeigh in The Good Wife from 2010-2016 and The Good Fight from 2017-2021, Kent Davison in Veep from 2013-2019, Chief Carl Grissom in Chicago Fire from 2018-2019, Harrison Jackson in Mixed-ish from 2019-2021, and FBI Agent Alden Parker in NCIS from 2021-2022. You might also be surprised to learn Gary has a huge voice career, too, and has been the voice of Dr. James Timothy Possible in all of the Kim Possible animated series and movies, and has voiced characters for Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, Archer, Stretch Armstrong, Big Mouth, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy.
