Here’s the news — ’80s icon Huey Lewis knows the Power of Love, and if you Want a New Drug, look no further than this Little Bitty Pretty One. Born Hugh Anthony Cregg III in New York City, the Irish-Polish American was reared in California before he went to an all-male prep school in New Jersey. The brainy dude then attended Cornell University. It sounds very posh yet Hugh wasn’t above hitchhiking across country and stowing away on a plane to Europe where he traveled without money. After busking his way through Scotland, he began calling himself Hughie Lewis. The moniker morphed into its current incarnation once the singer met his Huey Lewis & the News band mates. In addition to having a successful musical career, Huey has performed on film (Back to the Future, Land of Milk & Honey, Sphere) and on TV (One Tree Hill, The King of Queens, Hot in Cleveland). In 2000, he showed off his acting chops and bare chest in the road trip flick Duets with Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Giamatti, Maria Bello, Angie Dickinson, and Scott Speedman. But not before the stud popped up in Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (1993). The R rated dramedy features Matthew Modine, Julianne Moore, Fred Ward, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Robert Downey Jr., Madeleine Stowe, Frances McDormand, Andie MacDowell, and Huey’s nude movie debut!
