Kandisha (2020)

The French horror flick Kandisha (2020) introduces American audiences to a scary urban legend that's not as well known here in the States as it is overseas. The film focuses on a trio of teenagers, Amélie (Mathilde Lamusse), Bintou (Suzy Bemba), and Morjana (Samarcande Saadi) who spend their nights together sleeping over at one another's houses and swapping scary stories of ghosts and various other urban legends in an attempt to scare each other. One night, Amélie doesn't turn up for their nightly sleepover and when her friends reconnect with her the next day, they discover that her abusive ex Abdel (Nassim Si Ahmed) assaulted her. Amélie tells her friends of an urban legend she's heard of where an avenging spirit known as Kandisha can be summoned by women who have been abused by men and she will take revenge on the abusive man. While her friends are not convinced this is the best course of action, Amélie summons Kandisha (Mériem Sarolie) anyway and it isn't long before she dispatches Abdel. Now, the only problem is that Amélie can't control Kandisha in the way she thought that she could and as the bodies begin piling up, she begins to wonder if there's any way to stop this murderous spirit before it kills anyone and everyone she knows! Like most horror movies, this one's only got female nudity, though there is a sexy scene where Nassim Si Ahmed hangs out in a sauna wearing nothing but a towel, though it's also the scene where he meets a brutal end. Kandisha may have the chills and thrills, but all we want are the spills!
