Before he was bringing the hot, brooding intensity of a true method actor to the Showtime series Ray Donovan (and Ray Donovan: The Movie (2022)), Liev Schreiber was the product of an unconventional childhood. When he was just five years old, Liev’s mother, a painter, left his father and moved him from San Francisco to New York City, where they lived as squatters in abandoned buildings while she worked as a cab driver. She also forbade him from seeing color movies, so Liev spent his childhood watching silent and black and white movies at the local revival movie house. After he graduated from Friends Seminary High School in Manhattan, Liev attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Hampshire College, finally earning a Master's degree from the Yale School of Drama in 1992. Dark and delicious, the actor got his start in 1994 when he appeared in the made-for-TV drama Janek: The Silent Betrayal. Over the next several years, the actor made appearances on the big screen in movies like Mixed Nuts (1994), Denise Calls Up (1995), Party Girl (1995), and Walking and Talking (1996). Later that year, Liev played two sinister roles that gave him a reputation as a villain: Clark Barnes in the Mel Gibson thriller Ransom (1996) and Cotton Weary in the slasher flick Scream (1996). He started showing his ass in The Painted Veil (2006) and Chuck (2016), but you can most often see him bulked up and bare-chested, and on occasion pantsless, as the titular lead in  Ray Donovan, a role he mastered for 82 episodes from 2013-2020. True, you may have trouble correctly saying his name, but just pronounce it the way Mr. Man does: tasty.
